Heating system flushing — why it matters
Over the years sludge, rust, sediment and chemical deposits build up inside heating pipes and radiators. This significantly reduces the system's efficiency — radiators heat unevenly (hot at the top, cold at the bottom), the system makes noise and heating bills rise. In some cases the build-up can block the pipes so much that heat no longer reaches certain floors or radiators at all.
Flushing solves these problems. We use dedicated jetting equipment that flushes the pipes under pressure, and where needed with chemical agents. After flushing, the system is refilled and we can add an inhibitor that extends the system's life and slows down new corrosion. We recommend flushing a heating system every 5–10 years, depending on water quality and the age of the system.
Radiator replacement
Old cast-iron radiators are durable, but they have several drawbacks — they're heavy, dated in appearance, transfer heat poorly and are hard to clean. These days aluminium or bimetal radiators are the usual choice — lighter, better-looking and far more efficient. For underfloor heating, dedicated low-temperature systems are used instead.
Replacing a radiator is typically a one-day job. The technician drains the system, removes the old radiator, fits the new one with a thermostat and refills the system. After installation the system is pressure-tested to confirm there are no leaks.
Heat substations
A heat substation is where a building's heating system connects to the city district heating network (if connected to district heat) or to a boiler house. Substations contain a heat exchanger, pumps, valves, filters, controls and a meter. A properly functioning substation ensures optimal heat distribution, saves energy and extends the life of the whole system.
Toru SOS installs, maintains and repairs heat substations. We also offer regular maintenance contracts to apartment associations, including a substation check before the start of each heating season and an inspection of the whole system.
How does the process work?
Everything starts with your call or online enquiry. Our dispatcher listens to the problem, assesses how urgent it is, and sends the nearest available technician. In an emergency we head out immediately; for planned work we agree a time that suits you. The technician arrives with the equipment and spare parts needed to sort things out in a single visit wherever possible.
On site we run a first diagnosis, pin down the exact cause of the fault and propose the best solution. We agree the scope and price with you before starting, so you know exactly what you're paying for. Any extra materials or work are always confirmed separately before we proceed.
Once the job is finished we test the system, clean up after ourselves and issue a report. We give you practical advice on further care and, where useful, can offer a maintenance contract with regular preventive check-ups.
